Resting securely in our God defined identity can be challenging, especially in times of uncertainty and when things are shaken. However, this is when we must rise up and stand in our true identity. In troubling times, we must be more intentional to align to the unshakable truth of who we are in Christ – our sacred identity. We have access to joy, hope and peace that the world didn’t give us, and the world can’t take away.

In every season, there is more truth the Father desires to bestow on us. He wants to rewrite the script on the negative self-talk that has creeped in as a result of new realities.

Although we may be surrounded by pain, sorrow and fearful news, we can still live and fight everyday for peace, trusting the One who is in control and following the One who is the way.

More than ever, take some time this week to sit quietly with Abba Father and receive a download of who He has called you to be in this season.

Use these journal prompts to aid you in this sacred pursuit. Trust that you can hear from Him. And remember, His voice is kind.

Identify what you believe about your identity

  • What are you currently afraid of? List them out so that you can rewrite the script on fear.
  • This is an emotional time for many of us. Are you allowing yourself to process the emotions that are welling up? Why or why not?
  • What phrases and sentences usually follow your I am?  I am …(fill in the blank). Do they align to your true identity?
  • What is your relationship with control? How is God asking you to trust Him during this time?
  • What is at the root of your fatigue right now? Does this identify any false beliefs that you need to release?
  • Now that so many things have been cancelled and stripped away, which misaligned identities do you feel need to also be stripped away?
  • Oftentimes, we default to valuing doing over being. If you have been forced to let go of some of your “doings,” how has this affected the way you feel about yourself?
  • If you knew everything would turn out beautifully in the end, what would change today? (Behaviors, perspectives, goals)

Identify what is true about our identity

  • What new truths do you need to believe about your identity in order to move forward in this difficult season?
  • The more we get to know God, the easier it is to align with our true identity, especially during trying times. What’s one practice you can implement to grow your intimacy with God?
  • Think about who God is – His attributes, what He has done for you, and who He has been to you in the past. How does thinking of this help you believe what He says about your true identity?
  • How would you describe God’s love, and how has it shown up tangibly in your current season?

Align with true identity

  • What new practices can you do daily to take your thoughts captive, rewire your thinking and remind yourself about the identity that God has spoken over you?
  • Is there anything you need to say “no” to so that you can say “yes” to what God has for you right now?
  • Which new spiritual practice would you like to experiment with in this new season? (Journaling, walking, worship, breathing, reading, etc.)
  • What is hindering your obedience to what God has called you to do in this season? How can you remove this hindrance?
