Those moments when…
sorrow sits heavy on your heart,
uncertainty shakes your foundation,
weariness is an overbearing companion
… the easy fix is so alluring.
What is your easy fix?
A glass of wine, and then another; the chips, the queso, the ice cream in the kitchen; a shopping trip to Target; the guy you know will invite you over tonight?
What is your easy fix?
We all want things to be so easy – little effort, low impact, uncomplicated.
But, have you noticed those things we think are easy fixes tend to be the things that follow us, that stick around in the shadows and hidden places of our lives?
Of course, enjoying a glass of wine at the end of the day can be a simple way to unwind. But the significance we place on this act is what matters. If we are using this glass or that shopping trip as a way to escape, to ignore and try and wipe away the difficulties of life… more is at stake.
Running away, or hiding away, can only work for a while before the weight of circumstances hit us.
The only true way we can get through the moments of sorrow, uncertainty and weariness is bringing them to the God who loves and cares for us.
He sees your sorrows and wants to wipe your tears away. He knows your uncertainty and wants to assure you there is hope and a future.
He understands your weariness and wants to hold you in His arms and give you rest.
Here I am depressed and downcast. Yet I will still remember you as I ponder the place where your glory streams down from the mighty mountaintops, lofty and majestic— the mountains of your awesome presence. My deep need calls out to the deep kindness of your love. (Psalm 42:6-7, The Passion Translation)
What is your current easy fix?
Will you endure in His arms rather than run to your easy fix?
Will you allow the cadence of life’s ebbs and flows to move you into His rhythm and grace?
