Awakening Adventure : Why Most Ignore the Invitation

A life with Jesus is meant to be a daring adventure not a dreaded, underwhelming experience. When we think of adventure, we often think about skydiving or hiking the Grand Canyon. When we think about it in regards to the life we experience, we think of adventure as a distant dream, not an up-close reality.

Adventure is here, and it’s available to be experienced in your everyday, ordinary lives. But some of us are sleeping right through it.

I am known for falling asleep while watching a movie. It doesn’t matter if it’s a romantic comedy or an action packed thriller, I sleep like a baby. My husband expects it, and it’s a running joke if I’ll even make it through the opening credits. No matter how many times I’ve done it, he is still just as surprised at how I can possibly sleep through an action packed, movie. I usually beg for the cliff notes, but no matter how great of a story teller he can be, it’s just not the same.

Why? Because, adventure is meant to be experienced first hand.

Whether you are a stay at home momma, and your day has consisted of changing diapers and cleaning up after your kids; or, you are on a quick lunch break at work where you feel so disconnected from your passion and purpose, you might be thinking, “Girl, what I have going on is no adventure!”

I don’t know what roles you currently fill in your family, your church or in your community. And, I don’t know the season you are in— but friend, adventure is all around you.

The definition of adventure is: “An unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.” Now, our lives are starting to sound more like adventures, aren’t they? Haha!

When we said, “Yes,” to following Jesus, we said, “Yes,” to adventure – the exciting and the unusual, the thrilling and the dangerous. He exchanges our ordinary, static, overwhelmed, and mundane lives for lives carried out with meaning, purpose, and movement.

Romans 8:15 in the MSG says, “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?”

Over time, our lives’ experiences, the day-to-day, the difficult and the “cray cray” begin to weigh us down, and the enemy of our souls uses these moments to shift our perspective. We no longer see adventure, but instead experience frustration. We back down, retreat, and sometimes even fall asleep right in the middle of the best part of our lives.

Beautiful, fearless, daughter of the most High God, it’s time to awaken adventure!

You have been purposed to blaze trails, to pioneer movements of faith, and to leave this world different than you found it. You have been placed on earth during this time in history with this political, economical and spiritual climate.

I know it can be hard, and I don’t pretend to understand your reality. Yet, life and ministry isn’t a day at the beach, but a day on the battlefield.

When you awaken each day and live out what God has purposed you to do—whether it’s snuggling your babies or writing a book, the enemy trembles. He understands that when we as daughters of the King are faithful and fearless, living on mission, we are a threat to darkness.

This reality is why we must be fully awake and fully present, secure in His promises, and close to His heart.

When you experience hardship, remember to be strong and courageous.

When you feel let down, remember that the One who has called you is faithful.

When you feel overlooked, remember that He knows your name.

You are capable. You are strong, and the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you. So, no matter what you face or stand before today, you are victorious! The uncharted territory He is calling you to possess is somewhere He has already been.

Stand still, seek His face, and whatever He tells you to do, do it with all your might and all your strength.

Awaken sister, there’s ground to take in Jesus name!
