I think we all aspire to be something great. We have this idea in our heads of what success and happiness looks like. There is this sense of purpose that many of us strive to find and hold on to as tight as we can. As we experience some level of success our dreams tend to get a little bigger. We may find ourselves daydreaming about all the possibilities and there is the potential to get lost in our aspirations. For the woman who desires to create, to lead, and to be a game changer, sometimes the pursuit of greatness consumes us whether we realize it or not.

Suddenly it dawns on us that there is so much more out there for us to accomplish and discover. So we put our heads down, and we get to work. We do our research. We make the necessary phone calls. We work around the clock and push ourselves as hard as we can. Along the way we forget that our talents, our drive, and maybe even our keen ability to close a deal has nothing to do with us in the first place.

We cannot get so wrapped up in project deadlines or deliverables that we forget that we cannot be our very best without God. I’ve come to learn in the hustle and bustle of pushing myself as an entrepreneur that I can’t do it without Him. Time and time again, He has shown me that when my physical strength is struggling and my spiritual strength is wavering, His presence is the only force that keeps me going. We cannot afford to get so distracted by our own selfish desires that we forget to give God a hello or a thank you. We need to put God first.

When I read Psalm 37:4, it reminds me that when we remember to rest in God’s presence, His plans become our plans. The scripture reads: Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. This means that when we establish a relationship with God and find pleasure in it, He will influence our aspirations and our plans. I can’t help but get excited because God’s power is limitless and His plans are always bigger than our own.

Success from a Christian perspective looks different than the success of this world. When God’s children experience the riches of this world, we have a responsibility to not get lost in it. We must be careful to not place more value on zeros on a check than being used by our heavenly Father. Let’s be intentional in putting God at the head of our business and allow Him to guide our decisions.

When we position ourselves to hear from God, we can find peace in knowing that we are not in this alone. So with the excitement of meeting milestones, exceeding our financial goals, and being at the top of our game, let us not forget to thank God along the way. Let’s not forget to let Him be the driving force behind every single idea that we have. May we be the businesswomen God has called us to be because we partner with Him first and foremost.

What milestone are you chasing after? Are you placing it higher than your relationship with God? How can you make sure that He’s your first priority?
